Hire a police uniform
Our custom made and in-house designed police uniforms have been specially made for film, TV & stage productions. Our uniforms have been as closely matched to the current N.S.W Police general duties uniform used today.
Did you know that under NSW legisltation, a toy gun can even be classified as a real firearm. The regulations define a firearm as anything that looks, can be mistaken or resembles a real firearm. This can be an expensive cost if you don't engage a licensed and credentialled armourer for your production.
Use the section below to browse through our frequently asked question section, to seek an answer to those burning desire questions that we often get asked every week.
Firearms & Armourer Services
Q. Will I need an armourer on my film shoot?
If you plan on using any imitation weapon that depicts, looks like, resembles or has the appearance of, then the answer is YES, you will require a licensed armourer to oversee supervision of the firearm whilst in use.
Q. Can I use my friend who hold a gun license in NSW to supervise a weapon on my production?
If you plan on using any imitation weapon that depicts, looks like, resembles or has the appearance of, then the answer is YES, you will require a licensed armourer to oversee supervision of the firearm whilst in use.
Q. I have a diecast or toy cap gun, how come I still need an armourer on set?
Even though you are only using a cap gun, legislation in NSW does state that regardless of colour, shape, size or markings; any weapon that resembles, imitates or can be mistaken for a real firearm is considered prohibited and therefore requires a theatrical armourer on set to supervise the use.
Q. Can I make my weapons out of wood/metal or print them up on a 3D printer?
Of course you can, however the same legislation will still apply. If those weapons resembles, imitates or can be mistaken for a real firearm then you will need to engage a licensed armourer to supervise the use of them.
Q. Do you sell replica weapons, diecast cap guns or blank weapons to the general public?
We do sell these weapons, but only if you have a valid NSW permit for prohibited weapons, otherwise the answer is no, we don't sell them to the general public.
Q. I'm a collector, can I purchase off you guys?
Sure thing! Just get a prohibited weapons permit or license, flick a copy through to our operations team and we'll be happy to process this for you; but if you don't have one, then unfortunately the answer is NO!
Q. I need an armourer for a really small amount of time, are you guys able to do this for us?
Most bookings are usually booked as a 4 hour minimum turnaround for our armourer shoots, however for individual requests contact our operations team and put a request in, you never know what we might be able to arrange for you.
Q. Are there any restrictions on your armourer services?
In some circumstances, yes; limitations might be imposed around our armourer services if there are any high risk activities involved in your requests such as working in or around water, on the beach or near sand or if there is anything that requires dropping, throwing, sliding or hitting of the firearm in use.
Q. I'm a student/ independent /self funded film maker, do you offer discounts?
Our prices are already significantly discounted and our rates are based on student and independent films, so you've already been quoted the best possible price. However, if you do happen to find another organisation who can beat our quote, as per our price match guarantee; we will beat it by a further 10%
Q. What is the security/insurance deposit for on your armourer services?
The security deposit is considered to be your bond. If one of the weapons in use are broken whilst on set, then repair costs are deducted from this bond to allow us to repair the cost to the weapon. If the weapon however, is returned back to our armourer in the same working order than your deposit/bond is returned in full (or credited back to your nominated bank acocunt).
Q. Can I come and check out the look of the weapon prior to the principal day of shooting?
Absolutely, we are happy to schedule a viewing session for our replica weapons, in fact we strongly encourage it! Just speak to one of our operations team and they can put you in touch with our armourers who can arrange this.
Police Uniform Hire Services
Q. Are we able to wear the hired uniforms in public?
Yes! The uniforms can be worn in public, however we STRONGLY advise you to notify the local area police command about your production taking place including the time, date and location of the shoot to avoid any delays or legal complications
Q. Do we still need to notify the NSW Police about my shoot if its taking place entirely indoors?
In short! No, but we would still strongly advised this to be safe. The police are usually pretty cool about these things as long as they are informed, but to tend to get a little annoyed if they are called out unnecessarily.
Q. Do you hire weapons to accompany the uniform hire?
No! Weapons are not supplied with our uniform hire due to legal requirements in NSW. As most of our weapons supplemented weapons are considered replica's they are not able to be supplied without a licensed armourer on set.
Q. Are there any restriction to what actors/actresses can do in the uniforms?
Yes! To preserve the long-life of our uniforms we request that performers don't smoke or eat whilst in uniform. We also request that production crew don't mark or alter the costumes in anyway either.
Q. Are we able to buy the uniforms instead of renting them?
Unfortunately not, at this stage we are only able to rent these uniforms out for use in productions.
Q. How do I clean the uniforms once we have finished with them?
Simple machine wash is fine, but dry cleaning is preferred. As per our hire agreement contract if you don't wash the uniforms prior to returning them, you will be charged a $22 fee for dry cleaning the uniforms.
Q. Do you ship the uniforms for use interstate?
We are unable to ship uniforms interstate due to our NSW service agreement.
Q. I work during the week and don't finish till late, can we pick the uniforms up after hours or on the weekend?
Absolutely, we know that people get busy and we will do our best to assist you with a pickup time that suits you, so don’t hesitate to contact our operations team with your specific requests or requirements and we'll do our best to accommodate these requests.
Q. Are we able to offer your organisation a production credit instead of payment?
Unfortunately, while we understand that budgets are tight, like you ourt team still need to eat and pay bills. So, please don't ask as refusal often offend or are taken personally. Please also note that as part of our terms of hire agreement, production credit will legally be required as well.
Q. Why am I charged a security deposit on the uniform hire?
This security deposit is to ensure that any pieces that are lost, misplaced or not returned to us, will not leave us out of pocket, when you collect the uniforms you will be given an itemised list which has all the replacement cost pricing for each hired piece.
Q. If I've paid my security deposit, why are you still requesting a credit card?
Please note that the security bond is in place for any single or mini incidentals as listed above, however the credit card we keep on file is security for us should the uniform not be returned. Please not that this is generally the only reason we would charge the card you supplied to us.
Q. My shoot has run over; can I extend my hire agreement length of time?
Possibly, but it will depend on if there are any other hire agreements scheduled. Contact our operations team as soon as you can to see what we can do for you. If it's an contracted armourer service than speak to your allocated armourer as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
